Greetings Class of 1983!

Welcome to our class blog! We've created this space to keep you informed about our upcoming 25 year class reunion on Saturday, August 9, 2008. Can't believe it's been 25 years? Use this space to keep in touch with classmates, post photos or plan reunion side events (e.g., golf outing, river float, fun run). We're looking forward to seeing everyone and learning what you've been up to since our last reunion.

Actually on a snoozer conference call right now so this blog is keeping me awake and entertained! Oops, what happened to my work ethic???! This is so wierd. I'm 22, blonde 5'10 and 110lbs too! Ok, so I lied about my height :) maybe some other stats too :( Are you in Chicago?

Hey Mary, great idea. I will keep this site so that I can refer back to it. It will be great to see everyone. Sorry I couldn't make it to the May 3 meeting. But I'm sure all the delegation was done. I've probably got a lot to do. ha ha. I'm planning on heading home tonight for the long weekend. Need some time to relax and slow down for a bit. Life is just to busy. I need to stop and smell some roses before I get too old. Oh wait, I'm already old. Too late. Talk to everyone soon...Monique

Hello, fellow past classmates:
The extended weekend is finally here, and we can all enjoy some long-needed unwinding, RIGHT?
I hope everyone is enjoying themselves and having fun.
I have informed Mary that I won't be able to make it to our reunion since that is the weekend that my family and I will be returning from a trip from the East Coast. Sorry.
As a computer networking person that works in the security side of things off and on, I just want to remind persons to PLEASE DON'T post any personal information on the website/Internet for your safety. 'K?
Andrea and Chris - how did you freeze time? ;)

Catch everyone later.

etaoin shrdlu said...

What Chris said, Mary—thanks to you and everyone else for taking the initiative to pull together this reunion.

Phil: I hadn't realized that I'd frozen time until I met Stacy T. in Sportsman's a few years ago and she said, "You mean you never left Chetek?" And I thought, "OMG, I forgot to leave Chetek." It's a shame.

I'm now in Turtle Lake and think of you every time I go by your folks place. Phil, how are you. I'm really bummed you won't be at the reunion. I was looking forward to catching up. Thanks much Mary for getting this up and running. It will be nice to catch up with people BEFORE the reunion. Let me know if there's anything I can do from here. Hope you all have a great safe and enjoyable weekend.

Hi everyone.

I have never blogged before either.

It is good to start catching up with everyone.

I can't believe it has been 25 years - wow! Time flies. Work keeps me pretty busy - I live near Washington, DC and am the Membership Director for Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda.

Thanks Mary for putting this together.

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend.

Phil...where in the heck are you? I'm doing great. Married (happily) 2 daughters (16 and 14) and am a full time student these days along with all the trying to keep everyone's schedules straight:) Everytime I think of you Phil, I always think about that time at the Wooden Nickel, drinking some pink thing in a big glass, and you standing on the rail singing....WHAT IN THE HELL IS THE NAME OF THAT SONG????? I can hear it and see you singing it but can't remember the name of the song. Someone please help...I think this is my most favorite memory of you. What a great time.

Hey Joyce! Speaking of fond memories, I have many of the two of us getting into all sorts of trouble! Can't go into details blogging, wouldn't want all of our secrets to get out! Plus I think my Mom has access to this blog.

Wow, this is really a cool way to reconnect with everyone! My kids are like, duh. I used to be hip...now my hip hurts ;)

Hello to everyone who has joined this blog! It's bringing back lots of memories!

If there is anyone out there that hangs out on the St. Croix River, give a shout out! Always looking for fellow river rats!

Cheers!

jwestlund said...

Thanks for not letting our secrets out:) I have a bad habit of leaving my computer up and the kids coming along and reading. The things we did. Is it any wonder we're still around to talk about it?

Joyce:
re: "Phil...where in the heck are you?" - Not that far from Madison.
re: "WHAT IN THE HELL IS THE NAME OF THAT SONG?????" - Hmmmmm, hum a few bars and maybe it'll come to me!
Here's my e-mail addy (to avoid having it collected, I made it so that "bots", or computer programs that seek out information, I changed the format a little) -
"p gillett at wisc dot edu"
(remove all spaces, chance "at" to that funky symbol "@", and replace "dot" with a period).
Chris - how's the hips? ;)
Janet - remember "a (pause) space, j (pause) space" and the home-row keys? Huh, do ya? With using those scissors, you should have some strong fingers! ;)

jwestlund said...

Okay Phil, so I hummed a few bars to my husband and he came up with the group, Golden Earring. I agree with him on that but we can't agree with the name of the song.

I never thought that I would be blogging; let alone for the 25th Chetek High School class reunion. Thank you Nancy for leaving a message on the answering machine and the invite. I know that I moved half way through my sophomore year, but I definitely have many more memories from Sand Creek and Chetek than I do of Northland High School. Lisa, I am leaving for Washington DC on Tuesday. I teach science at Menomonie High School and am taking the Science Olympiad team to DC to compete in our first National tournament. We beat Madison West and 59 other teams in April and are representing the entire state of Wisconsin at Nationals for Science Olympiad. This is the first time Nationals are in DC. I will be taking 29 students to compete in 28 science events. This has definitely been one of my highlights in teaching and has kept me very busy this spring. My family will be going with me as they have definitely been a part of the experience. I guess I have never quite left school except while I was earning money farming to pay for my education. Phil, I definitely would enjoy seeing you again but looks like that will have to be another time. Everyone that has been involved with putting this together, thank you. I look forward to the 9th of August and reading other responses.

Joyce and Phil,

My money is on "Twilight Zone."

The 1980s, the Wooden Nickel, Golden Earring, partying . . . I feel really, really old, now, thinking of those remote days. Had the earth's crust cooled by then?

Hey Guys!
I am soooo glad I'm not the only one who has never blogged before! You guys made me feel so good. My kids think I'm totally technology challenged. My cell phone doesn't have voice mail or caller ID cause then I would have to learn how to use it! I'm so excited about the reunion! Mary and I put the invites together this weekend so look for them in the mail soon. More blogging later, this is kinda fun! TTFN Shari :-)

jwestlund said...

THAT'S IT Beth. Thank you, now I can finally stop trying to figure it out. I hate when I can't remember something. It must be old age. Monique, I don't know if Janene told you but, I'm your date for the reunion. I'll be coming back from the cabin for it and leaving Scott and the girls there. Just thought I would let you know enough in advance so you could prepare yourself:)

Replying to Chris - and want to say 'hi' to everyone else! So good to hear from you all.

Still in the Chicago area, and still working from home - 'schlepping' epoxy resins for a living. (stop yawning everyone - it is a good living.) LOL. Got a new position w/in the company Jan 1 and now cover all of the Americas - so travelling like crazy.

Jeff and I continue to live in sin.... Maybe we can get hitched at our class reunion. Anyone become a minister or priest in our class? Or maybe the 'Polish Mafia' can marry us? We could get married on Lane #2 - I think I got a trophy on that lane in 8th grade...

PHILG said...

Shari - I'm surprised you have a 'puter! Welcome to the 21st Century! ;)

Harold - I now wear my haircut like you used to (and still do, right?) due to doing triathlons. I did IM WI last Sept. '07, and it was great! One of my neighbor kids is going to DC for the Olympiad! That's cool! I hope I can catch them before they leave and let them know that you will be there! Small world!

Andrea - How many times have you buzzed with being around that stuff? Any headaches? I'm sure Brian W., my bro-in-law, would be happy to do the honors (as long as he has a couple brews in him). Which way will you throw the bouquet, towards the ball returns or in the lane? Either way, someone's bound to get injured!

Joyce and Beth - I almost went with "Radar Love", but "Twilight Zone" would be the only song they would have played. And yes, Beth, there is oil now that is being drilled, so a few million years HAS gone by. ;)

Lisamfrye's mama ;) - Maybe Harold will catch ya in DC? Put the gavel down and PAH TAY!

Eric G. - You haven't posted a thread yet, but I wanted to let you know that a couple of months ago or so your younger sister, who was with Kristen Jacobsen, spotted me at The Kalahari. Another small world reference. It's too bad she floated by on the tube and we didn't see each other after that.

Have a good day, all!

Hello everyone...
25 years went by way too fast. I have been in Albert Lea, MN for 20 years teaching English in the middle school. I send my 7th graders on every year and stay behind for the next new crew.

My parents are still in rural Chetek. They moved out of our "city" home about 5 years ago to the country.

I am still blonde, but 22??? Three of my four boys are blonde too, but the oldest is light brown (18, 16, 13, & 6). In case you are thinking we kept at it trying for a girl, we didn't. I wouldn't trade my boys for the world. Even the cat is male. You see, that way I am the only goddess in my house :)

I hope to see you all in August. That's the plan, anyway.

Kyle

p.s. This is my first time blogging too-- what does that really say about us????

etaoin shrdlu said...

Here's another hello to everyone, since more are dipping their toes into the blogosphere. I'm delighted to see newcomers and wonder who else is yet to lurk or post. Were there 80-something of us in our class?

Kyle--it's been such a long time. The last time I saw you was at the 5-year reunion and I recall that someone had asked you if you were ready to have children and you said you weren't even entertaining the idea. Four boys? Wow! Then again, my husband and I had four boys between us, ages ranging from 37 to 5. I can not imagine raising a girl, though it might have been nice.

Andrea, I believe my husband is entitled to call himself "Reverend Mike." He got the credential off a matchbook cover. He might be able to epoxy you two together, so to speak, for the right fee. I think he accepts Hershey bars.

Our "eighties" baby was an oops. We weren't planning to begin at that time. I was still in my first year of teaching and did not want to give anyone reason to wish me farewell. However, my principal was great about it. After that, we did not want to put too much space between them so 2 1/2 years later and then 3 years later and then 7 years later... our last one did not want to come, but now that we have him he's not going back! It's funny how life gets in the way and takes over despite one's plans.

Monique said...

Well, news from Monique. I moved to Bloomington, MN and have been here for around 20 years. We have 2 boys (16 and 14). They are very active in sports, which makes our lives very active in watching sports. We will be celebrating our 20 year anniversary in September. Funny, we have been working on our house the same amount of time. I often wonder if we will ever be finished. My mom and Janene (and Tim and baby Emma)are in Chetek.

Deann Bugella and I are within a couple miles of each other. Our kids go to the same high school. Saw her one night at a football prep rally, talk about wierd.

Joyce - Yep, Janene told me that you are with us.

Here's hoping we have a great turnout for the reunion....

Take care
Monique

etaoin shrdlu said...

Kyle,

How hard you have worked! I'm sure your principal wanted to keep you on board and acted accordingly.

I understand how life tends to throw curve balls regarding children, specifically spacing children. I thought it was kind of ironic and funny to be dealing with gray hair and baby spit-up at the same time, myself. I probably have one of the younger children in our class. I wonder who has the youngest, and who among us is a grandparent, now. :-)

Beth

kmm said...

We think alike. The same thoughts occurred to me. Aidan and I will be staying with my mom and I thought it would be a possibility to do a day thing maybe at a park for those of us with younger children. Looks like you and Lisa (Law) and I have boys around the same age (so far from what I have read in the blogs). Any takers on the idea?

Kyle

Kyle,

I am all hot to: 1) have a play group of sorts, somewhere and 2) have a canoe trip (since Mary suggested it). Will post a new thread to organize one or both in the near future.

Hi Guys,
Does anyone have an address for David Thompson? I got his invitation back today. I know he didn't graduate with our class but we invited anyone who had an impact through out our school years. Have a great day!
Shari :-)

Monique said...

Shari, Have you tried the phone number? My mom had given me that phone number when she ran into David. I think she said he was working across the street out on Woodard street, by the Brass Rail bar. There is an assisted living facility at the old Woodard's vet hospital. Good luck. Let me know if you can't find anything. I can ask my mom. Monique

Ellen Fransway said...

I will ask my niece Laura for it, or give Sue a call.

Ellen,
Great! Thanks for doing that. I checked a couple of phone books and no luck. Shari :-)

Hello fellow classmates...I, too, am a 1st time blogger...my daughter will be so proud, she makes fun of me cuz I don't text!

Unfortunately, I live far away from "home"...in Washington state but hope to be at the reunion. I'm happily married-have 3 kids and 2 grand-daughters (yikes).

I have fond memories of the bowling alley...bowling and good ol' wallyball with Lisa and Monique and gang.

Chris-I recently came across a pic of you pretending to "fly" off the back of my chevette at the A & W. Good times.

Kyle-I, too, loved your house, remember a sleepover there when you were trying to teach me how to apply mascara!

Shari & Mary-thanks for putting the reunion together...hope to see everyone there.

This is so fun reading everyone's comments. We're in Ashland and love it here at the Lake! Spend most of our time home schooling Rachel,15 and Michael 13. Pretty soon they'll be driving! Otherwise, golf in the summer and hunting (bow)and a new motorcycle!

We're going to have to dig out the year books and show our kids who all of you are!!!

See you in August
